So we've established on
Page 1 that the only affiliate programs to concentrate on are those with
on-going, residual profits potential, right? Note that this doesn't mean you should avoid affiliate programs with one-off commissions, just that the
focus of your efforts should go into
building your long-term income. If you see a good affiliate offer that isn't residual but IS related to your web site content or e-zine topic, sign up, put up a few banners, do a solo blast in your e-zine and maybe use it for a few 'top-sponsor' ads in your own e-zine. Then let it work for you passively while you continue to market your
main affiliate programs - those producing long-term, on-going residual affiliate commissions. The little spikes in income from the one-off's will let you
treat yourself or your significant other to a few luxuries or a nice meal out, and keep you from getting stale...
Step two in
maximizing your income from affiliate marketing involves the
viral multiplication of your efforts - and your profits! After all, aren't you just a little tired of being the
only person on the entire planet making
you money? Paying
your bills? Buying
you nice things? Filling
your wallet & driving
your bank balances through the roof? With over 6 billion people on the planet, surely a few of them should be
helping you make money too, right?
Of course they should!
DOWNLINES & SUB-AFFILIATES & MATRIXES, OH MY!:
Downlines. Sub-Affiliates. Matrixes. If you're new to affiliate marketing these terms might sound like a foreign language - but they're easy to understand. A Sub-Affiliate is simply someone who signs up for an affiliate program 'under' you - that is, they followed your recommendation and joined an affiliate program you're already in. You may have spoken to them personally, introduced the affiliate program through your opt-in mailing list, or they may have followed a banner or text link from your website or an e-book. In any event, they joined through you. If the affiliate program is set up for it, they just got added to your downline...
Many affiliate programs offer a multi-tier commission schedule, meaning that you make money from your own efforts and the efforts of those you recruit to the program. In these programs, all of the sub-affiliates you sign up are referred to as your downline - those who would appear under you in an organizational chart of the program. You may make a percentage of each sale they make, or you may earn a set payment for each month they remain a member. Either way, in these programs you're earning ongoing income from each active sub-affiliate you refer.
In some affiliate programs each person is placed directly under the last person who signed up, forming one long line. The biggest problem in a situation like that is that you can end up with hundreds of signups below you - far too large a group to work with, train or motivate. If you're like most people, chances are you can only effectively manage about a dozen people - beyond that the time requirements become far too great. So more and more affiliate programs are going to a matrix format.
In affiliate programs, a matrix is the simple solution - and the most powerful earning system! In a matrix, each person is limited to how many sub-affiliates are on their first tier (or level), and to how many levels deep the matrix can grow. In a 3x9 matrix, for example, you can have 3 sub-affiliates on the first level, and your matrix extends 9 levels deep. Doesn't sound that big, does it? Yet if filled, that matrix would have over 29,000 people under you! How does that work? You have 3 people under you. They each have 3 people under them, for 9 people on your 2nd level. They each have 3 people, so you have 27 people on your 3rd level. And so on, down 9 levels in total. For most affiliate marketers, this makes matrix programs the highest-paying affiliate programs online!
If you're like most people who are new to marketing affiliate programs online, you may be having trouble visualizing all this right now. So let's take a look at 3 real-world examples , two offering matrix-based affiliate programs and one very unique single-tier affiliate program that's in a category of it's own...
